Week 14 - More Social Strategy

After reading the text book assignment, write a blog post in response to this assignment:  Review what you have covered in class this semester and the work you have done using the various social media platforms.

Before this course the only thing I knew about Facebook was the notion that it was pretty much just for keeping up with friends and family sharing photos and TMI.  That view has certainly change regarding FB's business page although TMI still happens..

Now I've heard about LinkedIn and Twitter as well as YouTube, Instagram and Constant Contact being used for business but just didn't know how.  This class have opened my eyes to the possibility and the many ways on how to promote your business.

Learning not just so much on how to push your product or service but on how to engage with others, building your authority and brand by way of sharing information that others can benefit from has been an eye opener for me.

Just having a basic understanding which social media is best for my type of business has for me been a huge leap forward as well as other basics such as looking at other sites and see if it's well C.R.A.P.H.T.E.D. and any fixes they need.

Do they have good aesthetics, designs and branding?  What is their demographics and what types of social media do they use to reach their target market.  Then learning to adapt those processes onto our own business has been such a good learning experience.

I know much more now on the the different types of posts, tweets, what lists are for, different search terms for my business, and alternatives such as newsletters, email with companies such as Constant Contact and ways to get my message out for free.

I would still need to know more about analytics as I am unable to see mine yet but that shouldn't be too much of a problem as there is so much information to be had learning that.

As I said, I've learned quite a bit from when I first started and feel I can now get my feet wet with an actual business hopefully not too far down the road.  I also realize that I've only scratched the surface and need to constantly acquire more knowledge.

Which ones integrate best with the type of business you have created?
For a New Business Lead generation type of business, Facebook would be my first choice from free postings to paid ads.  Sharing useful information, promoting other people's businesses as well as my own with calls to action, I hope to engage with others where they would want to keep coming back, visit my website and do business.

LinkedIn would be my second choice with joining up with like-minded groups, finding out what people are talking about and needing, engage with and share with others.  For this medium, I would use a more subtle approach with my call to actions.

Blogging is another excellent, cost effective way to make my business more visible to Google with timely articles, valuable information which would help with my linking strategy.

Which have you enjoyed using the most?
I'm not nearly as good as I like to be and have a long way to go but I'm beginning to like the art of blogging.  Second thing I enjoy is Facebook postings, to come up with the right subject matter and images.  And share with others.  If it can help me I would want it to help others as it would come back to me and further help my authority and brand and round we go.

In trying to do these blog and post exercises, I would go and seek answers in the social media world to find the stats I need and best practices on how to implement things to help grow my business.  This class has taught me to seek places I haven't thought of for the things I need to know.  And to keep looking when you haven't found it yet because the resources are out there.

I realize it's a big universe this social media thing and what stats, process or best practices I may find may not be the most up to date or best or even if it is, it may not be tomorrow.  What I've learned is that you can't just sit still and expect things to be the same.  You have to keep looking.  Stay on top of things.  Adapt or croak as some would say.

The enthusiasm or lack there of for a type of media is often shared along with the posts we write. This class gave you an opportunity to experiment with a variety of them. Now you can focus in on what seems the most effective ones to use.

Which work best on a daily use pattern?
Blogging, Facebook postings, LinkedIn.

Which can you still use effectively on a much less frequent time schedule?
Newsletters, ad placements, special events, and promotions.
