Week 9 - Blogging for Business

By Thursday 4/3:

After reading the lecture and text book assignment, write a blog post explaining how personal you think you can be on your blog. When does it make sense to add personality to a post, and when does it not?

Depending on the blog subject one can choose to be business like when putting your thoughts down in a blog.  And of course you can be quite personable as well, dependent on the subject matter.  Care should be taken when it comes to humor that its not offensive and personal details...well too personal.  Politics and religion can also be sensitive topics if you're trying to reach a broad audience.

Opening up about yourself can be both endearing and effective in advocating, promoting, or selling something or someone.

It can also be a detriment when too much is opened up, either about yourself, family and others.

So one should take care in what the subject is, who or what your speaking about and how much and to who.

I believe a little humor goes a long way in most cases.  It can set you apart from the others who are doing the same line of work   all pricing and all other things being equal.

And when people feel good about you, they will usually feel good about doing business with you.

So in person or online, if you have something useful to promote, interesting to say, and make them feel good, they'll buy.  Mix in some personality and humor, they'll come back for more.  And bring friends.

And finally, whether it's straight forward approach and business-like or with humor and personality large or small, one should always have a purpose to their blog.

 CATEGORIES

1. Write a blog post explaining what kinds of categories you would use on your blog to stay organized and reach your target audience. How would these categories help the business grow?

For categories I'd start with type of leads offered which are new businesses starting up.  The demographics, psychographics pertaining to the business type and how best to work it with sub-categories of tips, marketing advice, strategy, tactics, solutions with a little humor thrown into the mixOk, maybe a good amount thrown in.

So for example I can blog about attorneys and when are the best times to contact one depending if it is a mid to large size law firm to a sole practitioner.  What are some of the best ways to speak to the gatekeeper (office manager or secretary) to get your foot in the door and other techniques to first get the appointment then the sale.

So now when you multiply that by the multitude of business types opening up and put into the categories mentioned, I would have an extensive list of subject matter to catalog & post accordingly per holidays, seasonally (tax), or at times randomly.

2. Comment on 3-5 of your classmates posts about getting personal on a business blog and include the name of the other blogs you commented on in your Sunday Categories Post.
